Our Story

That’s Amore Ice Cream was founded by Alyssa Fella and her dream to bring a vintage ice cream van and decadent soft serve treats to weddings and events across Charleston, South Carolina. Back in 2015, Alyssa met her husband backpacking and eventually married into the Fella family and a lineage of passionate ice cream entrepreneurs. During her very first visit to the family in England, she was introduced to their signature vanilla soft serve. It was unlike anything she had ever experienced at home, and she absolutely fell in love with its light, creamy, velvety texture and flavor. After joining the family, Alyssa quickly became ingrained in the local ice cream culture, learning the secrets behind a quality product, exceptional service, and, most of all, a rich heritage that simply cannot be replicated.

This deep rooted dedication to the craft goes back generations. The Fella family’s ice cream journey originally began after the Second World War, when family descendants sailed from Italy to England, bringing with them a dream and a wealth of authentic Italian ice cream heritage. Over the decades, the Fellas became synonymous with premium soft serve in the UK, catering to everything from intimate family gatherings to massive national festivals and concerts. In the process, they built a depth of industry knowledge that is truly unmatched.

It was through this incredible legacy that Bella came into the picture. Bella is a 1971 Bedford CF vintage ice cream van.  She is a real piece of history, a living museum, and completely unique. Dressed in a soft butter-yellow with a beautifully rounded retro silhouette, she turns heads wherever she goes. With her authentic right-hand drive and large service windows open to serve guests, she perfectly captures the romance of a bygone era. She has been a beloved part of the Fella family legacy for decades, which is why we ultimately shipped her across the Atlantic to Charleston. We are excited to share a piece of that history and introduce the same high-quality soft serve Alyssa fell in love with all those years ago. With over 50 years of delivering happiness and incredible flavor, Bella is truly the heart and soul of That’s Amore Ice Cream.
